Bechtel was the prime contractor for the construction and engineering of Riyadh Airport in Saudi Arabia. The contract also included signage and graphics, which required Bechtel to establish an in-house capability.
This massive assignment was the largest of its kind to date and required a staff of 15 architects and designers, taking over 4 years to complete it included wayfinding, signage, and graphics for 4 terminals, roads, support buildings, and a community facility for 3000.
The final contract was for 20,000 signs and would ultimately cost $ 45m. It was so successful that it became the standard for all 15 airports throughout the Kingdom.
