MetroExtra: Transit Branding

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) wanted to create an enhanced Bus Service for the Georgia Avenue corridor. In addition to numerous service upgrades such as fewer stops, new CNG busses, and upgraded shelters, a distinctive brand was required.

The goal of the new branding was to create a distinctive look, positioning it between the normal and future BRT services.

A comprehensive branding program was initiated starting with developing a brand strategy and positioning. Once this was approved, we assisted in developing a new name which was then registered.

Using the strategy and new name numerous logos were created resulting in the final MetroExtra logo. Applications of the logo, colors and graphics were applied to the new busses, signage, flags and shelters.
